PEEK et PAPIM, apports de l’impression 3D

Abstract : The removable metal-frame prosthesis remains to this day a useful tool for the rehabilitation of partial edentulousness that is suitable for many patients. Since the 1950s, the frames of these prostheses have been made almost exclusively in cobalt-chrome. However, the dentistry sector is modernizing and new materials with interesting mechanical and biological properties are emerging. Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is one such material. First synthesized in the 1980s, it is finding more and more uses in medical and dental fields. Along with the development of new biomaterials, manufacturing methods are also evolving. 3D printing is a recent manufacturing method that has many advantages and has a promising future. The objective of this thesis is to review the use of PEEK as a material in removable dental prosthesis and the feasibility of fabricating removable dental prosthesis in PEEK through 3D printing. An electronic search on the Pubmed database was carried out using the keywords “PEEK” and “denture”. Relevant articles in English and published between 2010 and 2020 were included in this study. Despite a decrease in retention provided by PEEK clasps, this material appears to exhibit adequate mechanical properties to be used as a frame for the removable partial prosthesis. A limited number of studies show patients satisfied with their PEEK framework prostheses. There are no studies on the possibility of printing the frame in PEEK, although custom-made medical devices in PEEK have already been printed and implanted in the orthopedic field.
