Choisir les sites minéraux urbains à végétaliser en priorité pour améliorer le confort thermique des habitants et réduire les risques sanitaires face aux vagues de chaleur

Abstract : Climate change will affect our lives in the coming years. We can already observe more and more frequent intense climatic events (floods, forest fires, heat waves, frosts). Urban areas will be particularly affected by the increasing rate of heat waves, which can have fatal consequences for humans, fauna and flora. It is necessary to adapt these areas now, so they could be more resilient. This means, for example, choosing the urban mineral sites to plant in order to improve the thermal comfort of inhabitants and reduce the health risks. The study is based here on the city of Angers, located in the Maine et Loire in western France. Thanks to existing studies, it was possible to determine the most vulnerable population to heat waves in Angers. Then, these data were cross-referenced with the exposure to heat islands in order to identify the sites most at risk. The thermal comfort study conducted on the Chevrollier high school site highlights a clear observation. The elements influencing the thermal comfort of a human being are for example, the occupation of the ground, the wind circulation, the presence or absence of buildings and trees and their density and height. All the methods used in this study can be used in the case of another French city with a meteorological measurement campaign.
