Utilisation du préservatif et point de vue sur son remboursement : enquête transversale chez les PrEPeur.euses de Nouvelle-Aquitaine en 2020-2021

Abstract : The use of PrEP has been steadily increasing since its MA in 2017. At the same time, there is an increase in STIs, particularly in the MSM population, the prefered target of PrEP. The condom remains the most effective tool against these STIs. It has been reimbursed since 2018.Our objectives were to describe the population of people taking PrEP in NouvelleAquitaine and their adherence to condoms; in the context of the recent condom refund. An observational, descriptive, multicentre study was conducted in Nouvelle-Aquitaine using an anonymised questionnaire via COREVIH. In total, 11 centers in 7 departments of Nouvelle Aquitaine participated in the study between September 2020 and January 2021. 252 patients responded to the questionnaire with 99% men, and 98% MSM. The median age was 40 years, and 66% had completed higher education. 84% had a history of STIs, 43% reported chemsex and 35% had been taking PrEP for less than a year; 46% took it continuously. 11% of people taking PrEP never used condoms. The main barriers to condom use mentioned were PrEP use (35%) and impaired sensation (30%). Chemsex and history of STIs were associated with less frequent condom use (p < 0.025 and p < 0.040 respectively). 61% of answering machines were unaware that the condom was refunded. In conclusion, our study shows that condom use among people taking PrEP is heterogeneous. Increased prevention of STI risk and condom promotion seems all the more important among people taking PrEP with a history of STIs and among those practicing Chemsex.
