« Qu’attend-on de nous ? » Les représentations du métier de professeur.e documentaliste saisies à l’aune des expériences spatiales dans les CDI

Abstract : This dissertation revisits the spatial question that runs through the representations of the info-documentation teacher in the current context of professionalization of planning practices of info-documentation centre (IDC). Space is here not only an object, a dimension, but also a method to grasp social processes within the framework of Embeddedness Theories. The typology of social representations of the profession (6 identified profiles) leads to a genealogy of underlying epistemologies. Design Thinking as an injunctive concept for info-documentation teachers is thus analysed as a component of private managerial practices that are now intruding into public institutions, here educational institutions. This theoretical framework supports the comprehensive aim of this research, which adopts successively the emic and etic points of view. The methodology adopted is an action-research with an experimental dimension and the development of a survey system which includes: - questionnaires (respondents: 83 pupils, including 65 drawings; 49 teachers; 27 school life members; 104 parents of pupils, 100 info-documentation teachers). - 8 semi-structured interviews with info-documentation teachers, - formal and informal observations and discussions, online exchanges on professional forums. - Participant observation during an academic course on Design Thinking. - Personal experience during the previous three years of professional practice. - An experience of IDC planning, supplemented by interviews with the head teacher and the administrator. - An interview with an info-documentation professional who accompanied a project of construction and development of a media library. Main results: In addition to the typology of the social representations of the info-documentation teachers and the IDC by all the members of the educational community and their expectations, the effects of Design Thinking on the profession are considered. This brings to light the paradoxical injunctions that structure the profession and reveals singular forms of spatialization of ordinary relations to and within the school institution. Above all, it discloses a stereotype threat effect (stereotype: info-documentation teachers would not be legitimate pedagogically), the factors of which (existence of a stereotype; minority situation in the group: they often work alone) would generate an interaction between the situation and the identity of info-documentation teachers. This effect would require a subtle activation by everything related to shared competences (didactic contents, pedagogy, school life) and questions of status or remuneration.
