Théoriser en liberté : la critique littéraire de Pierre Bayard

Abstract : In an attempt to question literary truth, Pierre Bayard invented the concept of interventionist criticism, which modifies the texts. This paradoxical approach to literature raises many questions about the way in which the literary object is approached. It puts the question of reception and the reader's place in the elaboration of interpretation in the foreground. In Comment parler des livres que l'on n'a pas lus ?, Et si les oeuvres changeaient d'auteur? and in Le Plagiat par anticipation, the theorist makes some unusual reading proposals: commenting on books without having read them, reading works while interpreting them as if the authors' name on the cover were wrong, or considering that it is not impossible for a writer to have plagiarised an author who lives much later. How can we reconcile concern for literary truth and the reader's freedom? Between literary theory and theoretical fiction, Bayardian texts are both art criticism and works of art.
