Prévalence et facteurs de risque des infections sexuellement transmissibles à Gonocoque à La Réunion en médecine générale : Étude transversale (PIST-MG)

Abstract : Background : Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Ng), one cause of sexually transmitted infections (STI), is a major global public health problem, particularly in Reunion Island. Asymptomatic forms are frequently found. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of Ng in general medicine in Reunion Island, as well as the associated risk factors in 2020-2021. Method : This was a multi-site cross-sectional study. Data were collected from an anonymized questionnaire assessing the risk of exposure to STI. It was proposed by general practitioner to all patients between 15 and 50 years old, regardless of the reason for consultation. Following the questionnaire, a screening test with biological samples could be proposed. Results : Between December 2020 and July 2021, 1 030 patients participated in the study. The intermediate prevalence of Ng in the general population was 2,46 % (IC95 % 1,43-2,96). The forms were asymptomatic in more than half of the case. The prevalence among homosexual men was 30,77 % (IC95 % 8,38-78,78). The main risk factores identified were : male sex, homosexuality, history of STI, co-infection with other STI and two-partner multi partnership. Conclusion : The prevalence of Ng in general medicine appears to be higher in Reunion Island than in mainland France. Male homosexuality emerges as a major risk factor.
