La transition vers le vapotage exclusif est-elle liée au type d'accompagnement chez les vapoteurs? Etude réalisée en Ille-et-Vilaine

Abstract : Introduction. In 2017, among French people aged between 18 and 75, 26.9% declared smoking daily and 2.7% declared vaping daily. Since 2016, the High Council for Public Health (HCSP) has regarded the Electronic Cigarette (EC) in exclusive use as a tool to help people quit smoking. The aim of this study is to show a link between the rate of exclusive use and the different types of assistance available for EC users. It also presents an inventory of the different types of accompaniment currently available. Method. This is an epidemiological, observational, analytical, descriptive, transversal and multicentric study, conducted from June 30th to September 30th of 2020. The study population is composed of 453 persons from Ille-et-Vilaine. They were recruited by an anonymised online questionnaire, accessible by a QR code visible on posters, or a website link on social networks. The posters were displayed in the waiting rooms of various health care facilities, as well as in the physical CE shops. The main evaluation criterion was the exclusive vaping. Results. 53.4% of EC users in Ille-et-Vilaine are accompanied by a seller, 2% are assisted by a medical practitioner and 43.7 % does not benefit from accompaniment. In univariate analysis, age is significantly associated with exclusive EC use (p<1%). In univariate and multivariate age-adjusted analysis, assistance from a seller is significantly associated with exclusive vaping (p<5%). Conclusion. Our study shows the importance of EC users’ assistance from people out of the health care system. Thus, these results encourage us to reflect on EC professionals’ position in tobacco control policy.
