Prise en charge bucco-dentaire en odontologie pédiatrique : analyse rétrospective des enfants soignés au sein d’un service de médecine bucco-dentaire

Abstract : The aim of this study is to describe and analyze the care of children monitored in the oral medicine department. A retrospective analysis was carried out on 330 children who were seen by a dentist between in 2018 and 2019. Only 114 of them were cared for in chairside care, and 125 under comprehensive general anaesthesia. Their average age was 5.9 years (± 2.82 years). The children treated under general anaesthesia are younger (median = 4 years) than the children cared for in a chairside (p = 0.002). 58% of children are boys. Most consult to care teeth decay (80.9%) with an average of 7.9 teeth and 64% of them have at least 4 sextants impacted by lesions. Only 10% of the children consulting for an oral check-up and 4.5% for complex oral surgery. Among the patients cosulting for complex oral surgery, 2/3 are over 9 years old. Only 13% of the children have a chronic disease, 7% have a disability and 3% have an associated disease and disability. These children are more often cared under general anaesthesia than patients without medical history (p<0.0001). Children cared under general anesthesia receive more care (9.3 ± 5.1 teeth) than children cared for in chairside (6.6 ± 4.7 teeth) (p = 10-4). Extractions are twice as frequent. The analysis of a large cohort allows us to identify criteria explaining the use of care under general anaesthesia: age, need for care, severity of carious lesions, disability, surgical complexity.
