Disponibilité des appareils de neurostimulation électrique transcutanée pour la prise en charge de la douleur dans les établissements pour personnes âgées de Normandie en 2020

Abstract : Background: TENS is difficult of access in France because of a long waiting time evaluated at 13 weeks to obtain a consultation at the center for the evaluation and treatment of pain. The chronic pain in the population of nursing homes can be almost 83% of the population. The aim of the study is to evaluate the number of TENS unit in the nursing homes of Normandy after a formation about the correct use of TENS and evaluate the satisfaction about this formation. Methods: A quantitative study was performed by an online survey sent to all the 93 nursing homes who participate at formation delivered to the nursing homes of Normandy in 2020. A comparison of the nursing home’s characteristics between the nursing homes who buy a TENS unit and those who doesn’t buy one was performed. Results: 17.2% of the nursing homes of Normandy have a TENS unit before the formation, after this one, the number of TENS unit in nursing homes increase to 34.5%. 93% of the participants are satisfied of the formation. Discussion: The nursing homes who feel competent to use the TENS are more able to buy a TENS unit. There are some stop like the budget, availability of time and lack of competence. The formation seems to be a good way to increase the number of TENS unit in the nursing homes. Conclusion: The availability of the TENS in nursing homes of Normandy is low at 17.2%. The use of formation seems to be a good way to increase availability of TENS.
