Éveiller à la fraternité en cycle 2 par l'intermédiaire de la culture et du débat

Abstract : The experiment takes place in a neighborhood where children of different origins live together, some of whom speak little French. These children are between 7 and 8 years old, and their relationships are very conflictual. I wondered about the means to develop a brotherhood between them that would be wider than that of their respective communities. After reflecting on the notion of fraternity and reviewing the possible methods for transmitting it, I defined an operating mode based on cultural mediation and the regular practice of philosophical discussions. This association, by developing children's reasoning and judgment skills, and teaching them to express their disagreements in a peaceful manner, is likely to bring about a positive change in their moral values and behavior. The practice of philosophical discussions proved to be complicated to conduct because a good half of the students did not manage to enter into the activity. Despite disappointing participation, the class group managed to come up with satisfactory answers and the learning objectives were generally met. Although it is difficult to evaluate progress in terms of behavior, there was a positive evolution in the children's moral abilities at the end of the sequence.
