La généralisation des habiletés sociales acquises chez les adolescents et les jeunes adultes avec un TSA sans déficience intellectuelle

Abstract : Background: Adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) without intellectual disabilities present social and occupational issues in their daily lives, which therefore impact on their social participation. This research explored the contribution of the occupational therapist to the generalization of acquired social skills in order to promote their social participation. Method: Seven occupational therapists working with adolescents and young adults with ASD responded to a semi-structured interview asking them about their occupational therapy support, and more specifically about social skills and their generalization, as well as about the way they intervene to promote social participation. These interviews were qualitatively analysed in a longitudinal and cross-sectional way. Results: The results allowed to identify the main approach of support and means used to work with these people. They also highlighted the levers and obstacles to the generalisation of skills and social participation. Conclusion: This study highlighted the importance of collaboration between the occupational therapist and the multidisciplinary team. Interventions in ecological settings, as well as the diversity of environments and repetitions promote the generalization of social skills.
