Sinusites maxillaires iatrogènes en pratique odontologique

Abstract : In dental practice, iatrogenic maxillary sinusitis are under-diagnosed. Inability to identify the iatrogenic cause may lead to recalcitrant sinusitis often associated with serious consequences, sometimes fatal if not promptly diagnosed and properly treated. The aim of our work is to analyse academic literature on sinus diseases caused by specific dental treatments and to propose a protocol for their management. The first part is devoted to embryological, anatomical and physiological reminders concerning the maxillary sinus and its relationship with teeth and the periodontium. In a second part, we consider the diagnosis and evolution of maxillary sinusitis. The third part describes iatrogenic situations in dental practice responsible for maxillary sinusitis. Finally, we propose management protocols for these pathologies as well as various decision trees.
