Les effets de l’orthodontie linguale sur la santé parodontale : revue systématique de la littérature

Abstract : The objective of this study was to conduct an updated systematic review to evaluate the effects of lingual orthodontics on periodontal health. Materials and methods: Four databases were searched (Medline, Cochrane, Web of science, and Dentistry & Oral Sciences Source) and a manual search was performed. The included randomized/controlled (RCT) or controlled (CCT) studies compared a group of subjects with fixed lingual braces to a control group (subjects with fixed vestibular braces, subjects with aligners, or subjects without orthodontic appliances). The primary outcomes were plaque index, gingival index, probing depths, and microbiological changes attributed to treatment. Results: Ten studies including 333 participants were selected in this systematic review. Half of the studies showed a significant increase in plaque and bleeding index during lingual orthodontic treatment. However, the heterogeneity of the data did not allow for a meta-analysis. Conclusion: This systematic review suggests that the effect of lingual orthodontic treatment on periodontal health is comparable to that of vestibular orthodontic treatment.
