Traumatismes dentaires chez les personnes porteuses d’un trouble du spectre de l’autisme : quelles prévalences et quels facteurs de risque ? Revue systématique de la littérature

Abstract : Complexity of dental care on people with ASD associated with the occurrence of dental injuries on these patients is a major challenge for the dental surgeon. The development of prevention adapted to both the practitioner and the patient’s family could then allow the reduction of traumatic episodes and/or their consequences and simplification of care procedures for these patients. The aim of our study was to examine the prevalence of dental injuries in patients with ASD and to highlight potential risk factors about these injuries. This systematic literature review was conducted using PubMed, DOSS and Scopus databases. This research included 5 articles corresponding to our inclusion criteria. Despite a low level of scientific evidence, it is concluded that incidence of dental trauma in patients with ASD would be higher among female children under 12 years old, most often during routine activities at home and would mostly concern maxillary central incisors regardless of the stage of denture. However, further studies would be necessary to objectively assess these results and enable adequate prevention to be developed.
