Hexagonal Mahorais: French with language and social practice single
The present investigation aims at studying how the Mahorais’ sociolinguistic situation has an impact in their representations of the French language and in the management of their plurilingualism. Through interviews performed with Mahorais and social actors who talked about them, through a questionary target answered by Mahorais’ students and through participants observations in two Mahorais’ families, we could understand that Mahorais’ plurilingualism can be an obstacle for their identification to hexagonal French language and society. In fact, given that French language is not their mother tongue, they do not have all the communication’s skills to speak this language. Moreover, sometimes they are being taken for foreigners in France because of their important identification on Mahorais’ languages even though Mayotte is a French territory.
