Densité : étude transversale de l'évolution de la forme urbaine d'un quartier de grands ensembles. Entre arguments environnementaux et perceptions habitantes

Abstract : After decades of urban sprawl when the mass ideal was accessing to individual housing, politicians and urban planners propose to make cities denser. Most frequently used arguments are linked with environmental aspects: decrease of space consumption, reduction of dependence on cars. Studies and tools on the perception of this evolution are remaining rare. Based on the example of an urban renewal project of a "grand ensemble" (large multi storey housing estate) in Lyon, La Duchère, this research project questions transversally the concept of urban density. Environmental impacts, talks and ideologies of people in charge of the project and perceptions of the inhabitants are analysed. The objective of this study is to improve the comprehension of challenges associated with densification, especially in the frame of "grand ensemble" urban renewal projects.
