Synthèse d'essais de longue durée en grandes cultures comparant deux engrais azotés minéraux : ammonitrate et urée

Abstract : Precise nitrogen fertilization is an important issue to limit environmental impacts of crop production. This study analyses the effect of the type of fertilizer (ammonium nitrate and urea) for a common crop rotation of rapeseed-wheat-barley. The network of trials from 2002 to 2012 highlights an annual effect well documented but also a past effect, receiving less attention, of the type of fertilizer applied on the past crop. The effects of the type of fertilizer are quantified on yield, protein or oil content and on the nitrogen taken up by grains or the whole plant in 52 situations with response curves to nitrogen. Several statistical methods are used to estimate the intensity of the effect of ammonium nitrate both on the frequency of significant responses and on the magnitude of the difference with urea. For all variables the system effect adding annual and past effects of ammonium nitrate shows the most important differences. However, the variability of these effects is important and it could not be explained by factors like crop, type of soil or climatic conditions. With no predictive model available for the effect of fertilizer type, it is necessary to be very careful on applying an increase of the nitrogen dose for urea to cancel the difference of yield between the two fertilizers.
