Le fabbriche della rivoluzione: discorsi e rappresentazioni del potere operaio nelle riviste di Pisa, Marghera e Torino

Abstract : Our research focuses on the journals published between 1967 and 1969 by two operaïst groups, the pisan Potere operaio and Potere operaio veneto-emiliano. If many studies concentrate on students' movements, the workers' claims and struggles, which came forward long before the “Hot Autumn” of 1969, have received less attention from historians and sociologists. Studying this period seems also essential to understand how 1970s' extra-parliamentary left-wing movements organized themselves. The journals represent a central device for political intervention since they were both used for educating and mobilizing activists. Moreover, they offer a preferential access to the ethos of these groups and to the way in which they conceive society and the possibilities of transforming it. Based on an approach defined as “political philology”, the comparative research on speeches produced by these groups first aims to show linguistic and conceptual innovations, which contribute to renew antagonist speech. Then, it allows to highlight the specificities of discursive strategies adopted by the groups to mobilize readers and generate action. Finally, through the analysis of the rhetoric of violence, it questions the dialectic between speeches and practices: during this political sequence, violence started to be conceived as a strategical tool for struggles. However it mainly represents a political resource that has allowed groups to assert themselves as autonomous political entities, independent from the official workers' movement, and to display to theantagonistic, subversive and radically political potential of workers' power.
