Compétences émotionnelles et bien-être en milieu scolaire

Abstract : The school success of students at elementary school is correlated to the feeling of well-being that they can feel in the school environment. Several sociological research showed that the level of violence in a school could mitigate or exacerbate this well-being feeling. Therefore, we looked at the possibilities of curbing the emergence of violent behaviors between children in order to make students available for learning. Moreover, the violent act results from an inability to manage our emotions, so it is necessary to learn to control them. Thus, we have come to ask ourselves, in our research work, how the development of emotional intelligence helps to create a more conducive class climate for students' school success. We experimented in two classes, one in a nursery school and the other at an elementary school, two devices that would permit children to manage in a better way their emotions, which would contribute to the improvement of the class climate. After the application of these devices we discovered that, through two data collections, a better recognition of the emotions and the capacity to express them allowed, in certain cases, to avoid the emergence of violent behaviors. Nevertheless, it also seemed essential to continue the development of emotional skills on longer-term in order to systematize the use of verbal language in case of conflict, rather than verbal or physical violence.
