Politique et spectacle de la voix : entre représentation et manipulation du « peuple », étude d'un talk show radiophonique aux accents populistes, The Nigel Farage Show (LBC)

Abstract : Launched in the wake of the results of the Brexit referendum, The Nigel Farage Show can be considered as a means for Nigel Farage to further his views in the public forum. The talk show puts a strong emphasis on listeners and their reactions to the questions discussed, both on air and online. The present study is an attempt to analyse what appears as a platform for democracy in the context of an overtly political discourse, that of the host Nigel Farage. Facing the host, what are the participation roles made available to the listener, and their means to confront, contradict and agree with the host? While dissecting the mechanisms underlying the different interventions, we do not attempt to systematically fact check the declarations of each participants but rather pay attention to the staging of each interaction.
