L’importance du débat scientifique dans l’enseignement de la théorie de l’évolution

Abstract : Since few years I have done internships in different establishments to observe how biology teachers perform their practices. During those internships, I saw that one part of the program seems to be tough for students, the theory of evolution. It leads me to search the origins of this toughness and how can we manage to overpass it. It’s during this internship year in Nelson Mandela high school (Marseille 12th) with my classes that I made up a debate device allowing students to appropriate the theory of evolution. The experimentation has been set up during one session, it enable me to see the diversity of initial representation that student might have and what a social reflection around a topic, using the scientific debate, can bring. I observed this tools can’t allow, by itself, to build the program’s notions. However it allows to decrease the representations’ heterogeneity in the class. Only from there we can make the working session allowing us to build program’s notions. I didn’t highlight the possibility to understand the theory of evolution using the debate but the role of the debate as a tool to overpass our initials representations
