Analyse nivologique par télédétection radar dans un contexte arctique (Svalbard) et comparaison avec les données in-situ

Abstract : Arctic is the place where major climate changes occur, like glacier and snowpack melting. Part of the PRECIP-A2 project leaded by IGE (Grenoble – France), this work studies the area around Ny-Ålesund village (Svalbard – Norway). During winter 2017, 9 SAR images were registered in dual-pol (HH / VV) by TerraSAR-X sensor (3.1 cm, 9.65 GHz), on ascending and descending orbits, with incidences angles of 28°, 36° and 39°. Firstly, the aim of this project is to realise snow mapping all along the winter – whatever the weather or the illumination conditions. The second part consists of retrieving a quantifiable physical parameter – the snow height – with a co-polar phase difference (CPD) method (LEINSS et al., 2014), and then compare the results with around 400 in-situ measurements. With the data processing currently used, it is difficult to establish a mathematical relation between CPD values and snow height.
