Gestion durable de la fertilité des sols : étude des pratiques innovantes des maraîchers biologiques diversifiés du Grand Ouest

Abstract : The issue of a sustainable management of soil fertility could be considered today as essential at global scale to limit the climate changes amplification, just like for the agrosystems to preserve their “soil ressources”. Market gardening organic farms, the focus of this study, are also concerned by this issue, especially because their use of the land is frequently intensive. The “PERSYST-Maraîchage” project, whose this study is one of the first parts, is designed for to develop new cropping systems with a positive impact on this soil fertility while integrating other specific issues of market gardening farms (such as labour organization). The main goal of this study was to identify and characterize practices considered as “innovative” allowing the maintenance and improvement of soil fertility. This work has been achieved on the basis of a survey of some thirty organic market gardening farms from western France. We can then wonder in what ways and with which objectives do the organic market gardeners from Western France are innovating in soil fertility management? How do these practices meet their expectations? This work has mobilized the “innovation tracking” approach and a typology has ended in a definition of 4 types of innovative practices. Then, an analysis of the objectives, experience duration of the practices, years of experience of the farmers and their feedbacks about certain expectations could be executed from the perspective of the practices types to obtain a better characterization of them.
