Quel avenir pour les constructions en terre crue dans les campagnes d'aujourd'hui ? Le cas de la Communauté d'Agglomération du Mont Saint-Michel Normandie

Abstract : For centuries, raw earth buildings have been used for agricultural activities as livestock and storage buildings, but also as dwellings in some areas where stone was not abundant. It was from the 1960s and 1970s, that these buildings became non-functional for machinery, especially on farms that were expanding and where productivity was essential. This shift in agriculture has led to the abandonment and destruction of many raw earthen buildings in the French countryside. Faced With this loss, it is urgent to act: a precise census and a careful study of this built heritage would allow us to discover and deepen our knowledge of the expertise of our ancestors. ln addition, building green buildings with bio-based materials and Iow grey energy is essential to securing our common future. Similarly, the maintenance and enhancement of the landscape are, for the local authorities, a means of developing their economy. These different aspects are the pillars of a sustainable development: economy, ecology and the social. His report of master is structured in three parts. The first presents the architecture of raw earth at different geographical scales: from Europe to Normandy. The second part deals with a census of the raw earth buildings of the Communauté d'Agglomération du Mont Saint-Michel Normandie, as well as the methodology used to carry out the identification work, the inventory and the survey. Finally, the third part is devoted to the analysis of the inventory and the future of the raw earth buildings.
