Perceptions des fumeur·ses sur le programme d'aide à l'arrêt du tabac idéal : enquête qualitative auprès des fumeur·ses au stade d’intention et préparation

Abstract : Introduction: with 13 million smokers in France, smoking remains a major public health issue in 2019. Our thesis is included in the LAST / PAST / 5A project. It aims at encouraging smokers trying to quit being helped by health professionals. Method: this is a qualitative study with thematic analysis of semi-structured interviews with 19 smokers in Aquitaine at the stage of intention / preparation of the model of Prochaska and Di Clemente. These smokers were recruited in May 2019. The study have been improved by the work of researchs, by a triangulation of data and an ecological triangulation. The analysis of the results was carried out according to the Grounded theory. The main objective was to identify the levers to mobilize to incentive people trying to quit smoking to ask for help from health professionals. Results: the possible helps for smoking-cessation are poorly know by smokers. The barriers to use them are the lack of information, the cost, the mistrust and the fear of developing another form of addiction. When developing their "ideal" assistance program, the health professional is chosen first. For most respondents, support from a professional is welcome. But the majority of smokers are not willing to long-term follow-up. Conclusion: the will of change is very fragile among smokers. To minimize the obstacles to this change, professionals must act in temporal, geographical and human proximity. It is therefore necessary to communicate widely on the benefits of quitting smoking and on the available and easily accessible help. Messages and media must be customized according to the different targets.
