Évolution de l'oralité alimentaire chez l'enfant âgé entre 24 et 36 mois : comparaison de la sévérité et des spécificités des troubles entre deux populations, nés grands prématurés et nés à terme

Abstract : Feeding and eating disorders are common in presumed healthy children (25% to 50%) and may increase among premature infants (40% to 70%). The aim of our study was to discribe the severity and specificities of these disorders between a group of pre-term infants and a group of at term infants and to identify the risk factors associated with feeding problems in preterm children.
For this study we worked with 79 children, aged from 24 to 36 months: 16 pre-term infants vs 63 born at term. Parents of children filled a questionnaire during the medical consultation. Additional information (GA, duration of ventilation, hospitalization, use of artificial nutrition, SGA, BDP, colostrum donation) was collected from the pre-term group’s medical records. The sign severity score was established from the Archet Scale, created for this purpose.
The severity score was significantly higher in the pre-term group than in the reference population (4,938 ; 3,836 ; p=0,053). The severity of the signs was significant (p= 0.011) between the two groups for the oro-motor module. We did not identify any risk factors for developing feeding problems in the pre-term population (p>0.05). Our results should be taken into account in neonatal services to prevent these disorders and in speech and language therapy practices to improve care and parental support for the pre-term population.
