Moteurs endodontiques et localisateur électronique d'apex couplé : étude expérimentale in vitro

Abstract : Aim: The correct and accurate working length measurement before the root preparation during endodontic treatment is important and can prevents overfilling. Apex locators are working lenght electronic measuring devices and are very reliable now. For ergonomic reasons, some apex locators are nowadays combined with endodontic rotary motors. This combination allows the working length determination and root preparation in one single step. The aim of this study was to compare the results of endodontic treatments performed by endodontic motors combined with apex locator with endodontic treatment performed by the conventional technic. Methodology: Continuous rotary endodontic treatments with permanent electronic working length control were realized with an experimental model. Fifty extracted single root teeth with mature apices were selected. The teeth were assigned to two groups. Group 1 : conventional continuous rotary preparation and group 2 : preparation with endodontic motors combined with apex locator. Quality results were assessed by an expert group who was blind and times préparation were measured. Results: group 1 results were significantly superiors than the group 2 results. However, endodontic treatments at least clinically acceptable can be obtained with group 2 technic. Endodontic treatments from the second group are also performed faster. Conclusion: With the limitations of this in vitro study, we concluded that the conventional technic is superior than the length control during root canal preparation technic. Endodontic motors combined with apex locator remain interesting tools to be used in daily endodontic practice.
