La compréhension au cycle 1 : articuler la littérature orale et écrite

Abstract : This study is the result of an observation made in my pre-school class (petite et moyenne sections) at the beginning of the year. The pupils did not seem to understand the albums read in class. They remained silent or responded randomly to the questions without reasoning. My literature review therefore focused on the concept of comprehension: the issues at stake, the processes and skills involved, and the obstacles encountered by the students. Based on the principles of explicit teaching and the power of storytelling, I devised an approach to test the following question: can articulating oral and written literature help young children better understand a story?. The results of this experiment showed that pupils understand more deeply the stories that are first told to them orally. Oral literature enables them to acquire an initial understanding of the stories, and subsequently to reach a more advanced level of comprehension when they listen to the same texts, this time from written literature.
