L'intuition corporelle

Abstract : One of the priorities of elementary school is to help the pupils to articulate their thoughts then to communicate them by using different means of expression. Arts and physical education (PE) both participate in accomplishing this goal, but those subjects also allow pupils to discover and mature their own taste. Dance and music – even if they are separated from each other – have one determinant element in common: rhythm. By using short clips filmed during a dance session in PE class and interviews, I studied the bodily intuition of the pupils and more specifically the influence of different factors on it. Through the observation of the practicing pupils, I drew up a typology of behaviour and a classification that led me to pick five students particularly representative of the observed behaviour. The analysis of their practice has built my researches and was the starting point of my theoretical framework. It led me to establish different hypotheses on what impacted their action in the process of dancing. Thanks to their personal experience, each individual is more or less sensitive to their outside environment, to their social and cultural influence or even to their personal interpretation of the music. The most important fact was found to be music itself.
