Place et connaissance des pratiques non conventionnelles en médecine générale : étude qualitative auprès de 16 médecins généralistes exerçant dans la région du Cotentin

Abstract : For several years, unconventional medicines have been booming. These practices, neglected by science and medical community, are however seducing a large number of patients. They are not taken into account in medical studies, often unknown by doctors and barely talked about during medical appointments, which may lead to a misunderstanding between the patient and the generalist practicioner. We have decided to meet therapists who practise these unconventional medicines in order to apprehend them and be able to answer our patients' questions. In this study, only not considered and recognized therapies by the scientific community have been treated. A qualitative study by semi-structured interview was carried out among 16 general practitioners based in Cotentin: 11 men and 5 women. The objective is to know the place of unconventional therapies in general medicine and also to ask doctors about this subject and how they deal with it during appointments. General practitioners realize that these therapies can be applied to all kind of patients for various reasons: different pains, shingles and dermatological complaints. They admit ignoring these praticises, adopt a caring attitude towards their patients but remain vigilant to possible risks. Our study highlights the lack of communication between doctors and patients and invites us to question our society and the current practice of conventional medicine.
