L’UNESCO et le tourisme culturel international au Japon : analyse de la préfecture de Nara comme cas d'étude

Abstract : Although Japan has been a member of UNESCO since 1951, it only joined the 1972 UNESCO World Heritage Convention in 1992. Amid an economic recession and the overhaul of its internal territorial system, Japan tried to develop international cultural tourism on its territory to revive its economy. UNESCO and its labels seemed to be an extremely useful means of attracting a new public of foreign travelers. Through a historical and legal analysis, we will study how Japan has protected its culture, to make it a major tool of its domestic tourism policy. We will analyze the results of public policies through the example of the prefecture and city of Nara in Japan.
