Étude de l'évolution de la position du trait de côte, approche par segmentation et apport des SIG pour combiner les informations sur le littoral : exemple de deux secteurs du Cotentin aux dynamiques différentes

Abstract : Coastlines are today attractive spaces with high stakes. Coastal hazards, that is to say coastal erosion and marine submersion, are important elements. In a context of climate change, events tend to be more frequents and their consequences higher. In order to have a better management, we have to better know the hazards on the past. A lot of studies are achieved since few years and it prouves the growing of awareness to coastline questions by population, research ans authorities. Two sectors of Noth-Cotentin (Normandy, France) have been chosen to this study. Is spite of their proximity, their features are different in terms of geomorphology, hydrodynamics or exposed stakes. It is necessary to study coastline as a geosystem and the GIS are an important resource. A diachronic approach of coastline position was achieved by segmentation to have a local scale. The study of evolution on the two sectors between 1947 and 2007 show an important spatio-temporal heterogeneity. Variations of evolutions are visible between near sections. Periods of accretion, erosion or dynamic balance were succeded in complex ways. The coastline nature is an explicative variable, but not the only one because the geology, foreshores natures and hydronynamics factors are also in action. This study enables to show the important variability of evolutions in a limited space and importance of local features.
