Les usages différenciés des « ateliers individuels de manipulation » en maternelle

Abstract : Today, alternative pedagogies are booming in French National Education, and mainly in preschool. Indeed, many teachers are used to using Montessori-inspired materials : the Individual Handling Workshops (IHW). These are trays that pupils individually choose independently. This research studies the uses made of these IHW by young pupils in their first or second year of school, in a rural school in the Nantes agglomeration. The methods used to collect the data were observations and video recordings. This study shows that pupils do not use IHW in the same way according to their school, family and gender characteristics. However, the social environment has not influence on the uses of IHW.
