Langues étrangères et conscience phonologique en maternelle

Abstract : This dissertation takes stock of research that puts foreign languages and mother tongue together, based on phonological awareness and reading. I will focus on phonological awareness, which is the main skill needed in order to learn how to read. I have taught English lessons to three different groups of students between the ages of 4 to 5 years old. Teaching lessons were based on a book from children’s literature that was carefully picked for the sonority the text has to offer and also for the topic which is appropriated for children of this age: farm animals. Songs have also been used for different purposes. The length of the trial was quite short, therefore I do not have the benefit of hindsight, and the long term effects cannot be analyzed during this framework. Even so, we can highlight that during this time students managed to increase their lexical awareness through the English language. Also, an analysis regardless of the professional gesture during a lesson in a foreign language has been done.
