Le «chemin» de la Maison de la Nouvelle-Calédonie à Paris : sémiotique d’une scénographie aux lectures plurielles

Abstract : This research focuses on the allegorical scenography of the Maison de la Nouvelle-Calédonie in Paris. This multipurpose place used for institutional and administrative tasks, but also for information and cultural promotion, hosts a scenographic setting reminiscent of exhibition design conventions while incorporating a functional layout, that is passed through by a plurisymbolic course. The analysis of this peculiar mediation scheme aims to explain the readings thought by its designers, and the vision of the archipelago they intend to convey to the multitude of its users, caledonians or not. The meaning of this paper is also about the representation of the indigenous people of the archipelago, the Kanak people, within this scenographic setting and as a process of presentation and expression of a « non-western » tradition and a living culture.
