Le Tangram, un jeu pour l'apprentissage des fractions au cycle 3

Abstract : Teaching of mathematics by manipulation is becoming more and more widespread in school. This study presents the interests, constraints and limits of manipulation in mathematics. It presents a learning sequence on fractions (notion of equivalent fractions and addition of fractions) in cycle 3 based on a game, the Tangram, allowing an active approach of fractions in a playful context. Through composition and decomposition of Tangram, school kids improve their knowledge of elementary fractions and develop their skills on equivalent fractions. They progress through the activities, their vocabulary and their representations evolve. They use equivalent fractions more often and the majority of them are able to perform exercises without using manipulation tools.
