Monographie sur le marais de Courseulles/Bernières-sur-Mer‎ : étude diachronique et diagnostic environnemental d'un marais retro-littoral aux enjeux multiples

Abstract : French wetlands have been perceived for long time as hostile spaces synonymous with occult myths and incurable diseases. After being exploited in the last centuries (consecutive drying up and peat extraction) they are now at the heart of the debate on ecological awareness and the revalorization of nature. The wetland covered by this research is the Courseulles/Bernières-sur-Mer marsh, a miniature retro-coastal space that reflects the sensitive balance between devouring anthropization and the protection of the natural heritage. The study site, made up of 30 hectares, is now the scene of many changes. Stakes such as the presence of remarkable biodiversity (breeding site of the Calamitous Toad) as well as the importance of this calm place for the local populations now face natural and anthropogenic hazards increasingly threatening. The aim of this research paper is to provide a comprehensive monograph on the specific themes of the Courseulles/Bernières-sur-Mer marsh, a space ignored in the course of History. This work has been done at the crossroads between historical, environmental and political study, for a geosystemic analysis taking into account all the constituent variables of the study area.
